Commissioner Toolkit Training Day

This online event is for County, Division & District Commissioners and Designate Commissioners. It will include a variety of sessions and will be delivered via Zoom, with breaks built in. The timetable for the day is as follows:

9.45 – 10.00 - Welcome by Sally Christmas, Region Chief Commissioners

10.00 - An introduction to the Girlguiding LaSER/RSPB training and event opportunities being rolled out from September

10.15 – 10.30 - Refreshment break

10.30 – 12.00 - Morning sessions

12.00 – 13.30 - Break for lunch (Including Air & Share)

12.30 – 13.15 - Air and Share opportunities for district and division commissioners

13.30 – 15.00 - Afternoon sessions

Morning Sessions 10:30 - 12 noon

  • Complaints, Compliance and Honest Conversations
    To help commissioners understand the differences between complaints and compliance and to gain knowledge in how to deal with potentially difficult conversations, including returning to guiding and finance.
  • Finance and Fundraising
    To help commissioners feel confident in their understanding of finance and fundraising issues so that they can support their units/districts/divisions/counties within that framework.
  • Change Management
    To build commissioners confidence in supporting their leaders through change.
  • New Commissioner Training
    To support new commissioners in developing the knowledge and skills needed for the role.
  • Creating and maintaining great relationships
    Ideas on how to create and maintain great working relationship with volunteers in your teams, including creating spaces for mutual feedback, role reviews and how to identify opportunities for personal development.
  • Risky Business
    To provide guidance and support for commissioners to support their volunteers in the creation and use of risk assessments, in order to create safe spaces for all guiding activities, and recognise unsafe situations and plans.

Afternoon Sessions 13:30 - 15:00

  • Succession Planning
    Ideas on how to plan for the future of their teams (including their own successor) and how to make roles accessible to others in their areas.
  • Doing Our Best for Commissioners
    To develop awareness of the Doing Our Best checklists and to understand how to use them effectively with units.
