Community spirit in Bethersden

Written by Girlguiding LaSER

Chris, leader of 1st Bethersden Guides has been making a big impact on her local community. She worked with the parish council, the Bethersden Community Cinema and the church to form the Bethersden Community Neighbourhood Scheme to identify and support those in the community in need. Food redistribution charity and Girlguiding LaSER partner, FareShare, provided some supplies to support with this. The Bethersden Community Neighbourhood Scheme has also introduced a 'Nominate My Neighbour' scheme to enable members of the community to nominate others to receive food boxes and special treats.

To celebrate VE Day, they created a special Bethersden Tea Bag with everything needed for a tea party. The red, white and blue bags were delivered to older residents and those who had been shielding for many weeks, to be enjoyed at self-isolation garden parties. You can see pictures of these bags being put together and distributed here.

That week, they sent out 110 afternoon tea gift bags as well as 13 boxes for families and eight boxes for older people.

Community spirit in action!
