May 2019 blogging memo

Welcome to your latest blogging memo.

Know someone else who wants to receive this memo? Just let us know and we can add them to the list.

The Hive, our digital offering for Rangers and 18-30 year old members are looking for more members in that age range to get involved in creating posts and writing content, or even just getting in touch to let the group know about a topic they're interested in. If you know a 14-30 year old member who might be interested in getting involved, please do point them in the direction of the Hive page on the LaSER website: https://www.girlguidinglaser.org.uk/the-hive.

What do we need from you?

If you have an idea for a blog post, we want to hear it.

As the weather gets warmer we want to hear from you on what summer activities you're doing with your units. Are there any skills builders or unit meeting activities you're planning to do when you can go outside? Or maybe you're planning a walk or sports day. Let us know at digital@girlguidinglaser.org.uk and we might be able to feature it in an upcoming blog post.

We're still going to be focusing on the new programme, and how units have been working on it. We'd love to hear from you about how you've been carrying out the new activities in your units. Have any of your members completed any badges yet?

We always want to cover everything that guiding has to offer, so whatever you're doing or wherever you're going - we want to hear from you!

What have we been blogging about?

Over the last few weeks we've had some great blogs posted.

  • Laura has written a post for The Hive called '10 tips to keep you going during an expedition', which is well worth a read for anyone who's got one coming up!
  • Alexia has written a fab post about the flowers she spotted on a woodlands spring walk.
  • Selika, leader at 6th South & Upper Norwood Rainbows, has written a lovely poem called 'The Girl Guide Blues', which might make a great piece to share with any girl who's nervous about moving on to the next section.
  • Beth has written a really inspiring post about her experience of earning the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award (what an achievement!).
  • We've also got a new post looking at easyfundraising, and how this can help leaders take control of their fundraising.

You can read these blog posts on the news page on the LaSER website.

What's next?

Our blog posts cover a variety of topics ranging from what our members are getting up to in meetings, Girlguiding initiatives and opportunities, and important issues.

Blog themes and up-and-coming ideas include:

  • New programme experiences - as above, please let us know if you have any thoughts on this.
  • The Police Challenge – have your Guides completed Girlguiding’s new activity pack developed in partnership with the Met Police? We want to hear about how they got on! If the girls can write it, even better.
  • We know a few units have undertaken some fundraising over the last few weeks - why not write a blog post about what you've been up to?

We want to shout about the great work each of our units are doing, and want to feature different units showing what they've been up to. If your unit would like to be featured in an upcoming blog post let us know at digital@girlguidinglaser.org.uk.

If you've got any other ideas for a blog, or if you already have something drafted, please drop us a line.

Similarly, if you know of anyone else guiding in LaSER who you think would like to be involved in blogging then please do send them our details!
