Take a look at our favourite eco-influencers

Written by Charlotte Allen

As we start to think more and more about our climate and how we are impacting our planet, we thought it would be useful to share our favourite eco-bloggers & influencers to give you some tips on how you can play your part. We will also show you how to link your climate change action to the new Rangers programme!

Greta Thunberg (@gretathunberg)

Greta is a 16-year-old eco-influencer who organised the global school strikes for climate. She has resorted to protesting because she is too young to vote. She is urging people to reduce their carbon footprint by giving up air travel and eating less meat.

I have a dream that the powerful take climate change seriously. The time for fairytales is over.

— Greta Thunberg

Immy Lucas (@sustainably_vegan)

This Londoner is all about living the low-impact life. Her blog teaches people how to do a variety of DIY activities. From making natural cleaning products to low-waste gym essentials, Immy has lots of useful and exciting tips to help us reduce our impact on the planet. Take a look at her blog to find out more about the Low Impact 30 challenge!

Manuela Brown (@thegirlgonegreen)

Based in the Philippines, Manuela uses social media to break the stereotypes about environmentalists and encourages people to buy second hand. She also posts motivational messages and beautiful pictures of nature to inspire people.

So, how can I link all these ideas to the new programme?

In the Rangers section of the Future Girl Acts UMA, you can create a sculpture out of plastic (that has already been used - don't buy some just for the activity!) to show the impact rubbish pollution has on our world. You can also do your Influence stages 5 and 6 Skills Builders and your Make a Change stages 5 and 6 Skills Builders to turn all your good work into badges!

Do you have any other blogs about helping the environment?

Of course! We have our Top 10 ways to reduce your plastic waste, Tamar's experience of the Youth Strike 4 Climate and Top 10 vegan recipes to try - take a scroll through The Hive section to see all the other interesting blogs that we've posted.

When you're ready to take the next step and make a pledge to help the environment, make sure you make your #PlasticPromise on the Girlguiding website!
