LaSER trip to Sangam, India 2007

Ali and a group of very excited Y10 students making flags

India 1st - 22nd August 2007

Tears of friendship when we landed at Heathrow proved just what a successful trip we'd had! Three weeks of challenges, fun, adventure and new experiences made for a once in a lifetime trip that we took real pleasure in leading and renewed our passion for guiding.

Sangam World Centre was a fantastic base to start from; easing us slowly into Indian culture and providing us with a broader picture of international Guiding and WAGGGS. Whilst at Sangam we took part in the "Education for All" service project. Working in mixed patrols with Guides from across the globe we planned and delivered exciting sessions using our experience of working with Brownies, Rainbows and Guides. We also spent time visiting NGOs, doing yoga, Bollywood dancing and sampling the fantastic local cuisine.

After an emotional goodbye to Sangam where we were told we were the best group they'd ever had, we boarded a plane to Delhi to start the next part of our adventure. 20 degrees hotter and without the rain, the air conditioned hotel and flower garlands were very welcomed by all! Mohammad and Ram our bus drivers were excellent guides around the Golden Triangle and Pushkar.

We visited many temples, palaces and forts giving the group a taste of Indian history and plenty of photo opportunities. Riding on camels, elephants, and autorickshaws provided much entertainment! We completed our trip by returning to Mumbai and were looked after by our very hospitable Mumbai Guiding friends. They accompanied us on our visit to Bollywood studios, gave us lots of last minute shopping tips and took us out for a meal to the local cricket club! A fantastic last three days!

Thank you so much for your support, enabling us to be part of a truly life changing trip. We have all developed more than we could ever have imagined, as individuals, team members and leaders.
