" I'd recommend guiding to anyone who's young at heart "
On behalf of Girlguiding London and South East England (LaSER) it is my pleasure to welcome you all to our website, in this Girlguiding’s Centenary year!
It is hard to believe that 100 years ago, a small group of girls gate crashing a Boy Scout Rally at Crystal Palace & asking Robert Baden Powell for ‘Something for the girls’, would lead to a worldwide organisation with over 10 million members in 145 countries.
It is my privilege and pleasure to lead members in nineteen counties across the LaSER. Thanks to over 8,000 leaders and adult volunteers, who give their time freely, we are able to offer an exciting and relevant programme, in a safe girl only space, to 66,000 girls and young women from five to twenty five.
During their time with Girlguiding LaSER our members will have many opportunities to grow and develop, ready to take their place as confident, caring active members of their wider community. This could not happen without the tremendous support given by their leaders and I would like to record my personal thanks to all our volunteers for the way in which they selflessly work to help shape the lives of the young women of the future.
Girlguiding LaSER belongs to a movement which is constantly changing and updating to meet the needs of today’s girls, whilst preserving the values that have made Girlguiding the largest organisation for girls and young women in the UK. With just over half a million members, and 47, 000 waiting to join us, we must be getting something right!
I invite you to delve into our website, find out about the exciting events planned for our Centenary, and if you are not already a member, but feel like joining us, whatever your age, we would love to see you. Give us a try, you will not be disappointed! To those browsers who are already members, may I wish you a happy, exciting and memorable Centenary year as we all celebrate the birth of an organisation built on fun and friendship.
Enjoy your year and look back in the future and say, ‘I was there!’
