LaSER takes up the challenge

In early 2007 the Region group of International Advisers was asked for ideas on an international theme to mark the Centenary. One of the advisers, Sue Craven, told the group about a charity working with the Zulu Community in South Africa to support children and families affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The charity was God's Golden Acre.

Sue says, ‘I heard Heather Reynolds speaking on the radio about the work the charity was doing. Her description really made an impact on me and when the International Advisers were asked for ideas this seemed to be the right one. Our Region has a strong tradition of supporting Senior Section Service projects and HIV/AIDS is very topical in the WAGGGS agenda'.

On 21st October 2007 Sue and Helen Beecher Bryant went to meet Heather and Patrick Reynolds at Bidford on Avon, Warwickshire. Helen remembers, ‘Heather welcomed us and almost immediately began talking about Guiding and camping and about how she would like to run camps for the children at God's Golden Acre.
