Girlguiding LaSER Champions celebrate International Women’s Day!

For International Women's Day 2016 three Girlguiding LaSER Champions went to the London Living Room at the Greater London Assembly for an inspiring evening with amazing women.

International Women's Day is an annual day to celebrate the achievement of women but also to recognise how far is left to go to achieve equality.

This year's international theme was "Pledge for Parity" and the theme at the event at the GLA was sport. Girlguiding LaSER Champions Cassie Galpin, Priya Singh, and Anwulika Elliot were invited by the host and chair of the GLA, Jennette Arnold to represent Girlguiding in London and the South East and attend with speakers and women from a variety of backgrounds. There were speakers, including the Girlguiding CEO Julie Bentley, Cathie Sabin from the Lawn Tennis Association and Jennie Price from Sport England, who produced the #ThisGirlCan campaign.

We were incredibly inspired by the evening and were thrilled to take the opportunity to shout out about the amazing work that Girlguiding volunteers and members do to support women.

Anwulika Eliot said "It was great to see so many women supporting other women and the younger generations by offering their support and business cards. I enjoyed speaking to so many inspiring and influential women and also good to hear from people who used to be members of Girlguiding."

Priya Singh said "As someone who loves sport, I am thrilled to see more people actively encouraging more females across all ages to get involved in sport. And I loved the fact that this links in with Girlguiding and its messages about embracing and loving our bodies."
