Pip’s Perspective – a message from the Chief Commissioner
I've set myself a goal to get out walking more for the 'Myself' element of the Voyage Award.
My exercise had hit rock bottom when some days the furthest I was walking was from the front door to my car… something had to be done! Incorporating walks into my daily routine, especially now the weather has improved, building up gradually to a long-distance walk by the end of the year is the plan. So I am delighted that our LaSER walking team has launched 'LaSER Walks Miles' this week (see article below). What a great way to encourage us all to get out and enjoy walking, with the added incentive of seeing how far we can walk! I wonder how long it will take the combined effort of the Region to walk the equivalent of Lands End to John O'Groats?

What matters to girls today?
Whether it’s gender stereotypes, a lack of female role models or women’s rights, Girlguiding want to know what Guides care about.
They’ve created a quick survey to help identify some of the key issues that girls and young women think about today, and any suggestions they have to make a difference. There’s also a prize draw! Ten participants will win Girlguiding shop vouchers or signed BIG GIG t-shirts.
Guides have until 11 May to give Girlguiding their views, and they will help to shape an exciting upcoming Girlguiding advocacy initiative… and a brand new programme resource about getting girls' voices heard!
LaSER Walks Miles has started
The aim of the challenge is to encourage all LaSER members to get out and walk – whether to school, work or for ‘a walk’.
As a leader, all that is required for you is to:
• ask your girls to record the miles they walk
• award certificates after particular distances have been achieved (these are cumulative distances a bit like the Nights Away badge)
• log the certificates awarded
You can include walks from the first day after Easter: Tuesday 22 April.
The challenge is open to all sections including Leaders and Trefoil and you could also consider doing this with the LaSER Walking Challenge.
