LaSER Campsite Review

Girlguiding LaSER is committed to offering girls and young women a range of opportunities to experience adventure and challenging girl-led programmes.

In Spring 2011, the Trustees commissioned a full review of the three campsites that LaSER currently leases: Chigwell Row in Essex, Cudham Shaws in Kent and Paxmead Riverside Base in Surrey. During this review, our members and supporters were invited to take part in two consultations, which further informed the Trustees of the views of our membership. The final recommendations went to the Executive Committee on 1 February 2014.

It was important to consider the best way to provide outdoor residential and camping opportunities for all 77,500 LaSER members. LaSER will be working to ensure that substantial development of our campsites will meet our members’ future needs. We must manage our sites professionally with due consideration to Health & Safety, compliance and financial resources.

The Trustees have taken the decision that Girlguiding LaSER will retain Cudham Shaws Campsite.

We will relinquish Paxmead Riverside Base, at the end of the current lease in December 2014 and Chigwell Row campsite in Spring 2016. This is to concentrate our financial and management resources at Cudham Shaws creating the very best, high quality, adventurous camping and residential opportunities for our members. This is a very exciting development for the region and one that we plan will meet the future demands for fun, action and challenge of the girls and young women in guiding in our area.

Chigwell Row will continue to be used until Spring 2016 and Paxmead until December 2014 under a new central management team. Further information will become available on our website and through Raspberry Ripple, our weekly e-newsletter.
