June 2019 blogging memo

Welcome to your latest blogging memo.

Know someone else who wants to receive this memo? Just let us know and we can add them to the list, or ask them to get in touch.

What do we need from you?

If you have an idea for a blog post, we want to hear it.

As we work through the summer term we're sure that a lot of units are spending more time outdoors, and we'd love to hear from you on what summer activities you're doing with your units. Are there any skills builders or unit meeting activities you're planning to do now you can spend time outside the meeting place? Or maybe you're planning a walk or sports day. Let us know at digital@girlguidinglaser.org.uk and we might be able to feature it in an upcoming blog post.

We're still going to be focusing on the new programme, and how units have been working on it. We'd love to hear from you about how you've been carrying out the new activities in your units. Have any of your members completed any badges yet?

You also may have seen our first post in our new series looking at Flexible Volunteering. If you've got an example to share please do get in touch at digital@girlguidinglaser.org.uk. We really want to be able to shout about the great ways our units are run, and how there's opportunities for everyone to volunteer if they wish.

We always want to cover everything that guiding has to offer, so whatever you're doing or wherever you're going - we want to hear from you!

What have we been blogging about?

Over the last few weeks we've had some great blogs posted.

  • We've got a post from Miranda about her experience of the International Service Team, and how you can get involved.
  • As mentioned above, we've published our first article in our series on Flexible Volunteering. In this post we hear from three different units - 4th Wanstead Guides, 1st Shalford Brownies and 3rd Tonbridge Guides about different ways they have volunteers helping out.
  • Agatha, from 21st Fulham Guides, has written about her fundraising event - brownies for Brownies!
  • Lynette, Division Commissioner for Girlguiding Eastbourne, has written about the Shackleton Shield Challenge their division recently took on.
  • We've got a really nice post from Laura about her adventures in beekeeping... stay tuned for more!
  • And Carmen has written about what she's pledged for her Community Action section of her Queen's Guide Award.

You can read these blog posts on the ‘News’ page on the Girlguiding LaSER website, along with updates from The Hive.

What's next?

Our blog posts cover a variety of topics ranging from what our members are getting up to in meetings, Girlguiding initiatives and opportunities, and important issues.

Blog themes and up-and-coming ideas include:

  • New programme experiences - as above, please let us know if you have any thoughts on this.
  • The Police Challenge – have your Guides completed Girlguiding’s new activity pack developed in partnership with the Met Police? We want to hear about how they got on! If the girls can write it, even better.
  • We know a few units have undertaken some fundraising over the last few weeks - why not write a blog post about what you've been up to?

We want to shout about the great work each of our units are doing, and want to feature different units showing what they've been up to. If your unit would like to be featured in an upcoming blog post let us know at digital@girlguidinglaser.org.uk.

If you've got any other ideas for a blog, or if you already have something drafted, please drop us a line.

Similarly, if you know of anyone else guiding in Girlguiding LaSER who you think would like to be involved in blogging then please do send them our details!
