Leap into 2024 with Girlguiding London and South East England.

Did you know that 2024 is a leap year? Try our Bounce challenge and join members across Girlguiding London and South East England by leaping into 2024 together. Your activity could be physically leaping, jumping, bouncing or exploring other activities around this theme. You could also join up with other units in your districts, divisions or county to make an even bigger jump!

You can design activities to suit the needs of your unit, and there is no set criteria required to gain your badge other than just taking part. Try some or all of the activity ideas below, or try your own:

Activity ideas

  • As a unit or with others in your district, division or county, plan a trip to a local trampoline park.
  • If you want a longer/bigger adventure plan a sleepover at a trampoline park
  • What is the Guinness world record for the longest; most people at the same time or highest trampoline session – can you beat that?
  • Have a go at bouncing on a space hopper or pogo stick
  • What animals bounce? Can you replicate their movements?
  • How long can you jump for? Can you make it harder by jumping on one leg or hopping
  • Try abseiling – remember to jump on the way back down
  • Have you seen previous Olympic or world gymnastic games? Can you try jumping over hurdles?
  • Challenge yourself to learn some new skipping moves, all of these involve jumping over a rope
  • What animals jump? Can you replicate their movements?
  • 2024 is a leap year – research and learn more around leap year traditions, celebrations, and superstitions
  • What would happen if we didn’t have leap years?
  • Create some dance moves where you leap to the music! What animals leap? Can you replicate their movements?
  • A famous man once said ‘One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’ – who was he and what was he doing? If you were his place, what do you think you would have said?
  • On other planets we know gravity is different. Imagine how you would get around if you were on one where the gravity is less, or more?
  • Can you make a bouncy ball out of any materials?
  • All movement requires energy, how could you determine the energy required per jump?
  • Design an obstacle course involving jumping, bouncing, and leaping!
  • Can you draw or colour in a picture whilst jumping?
  • Can you take a photo of your entire unit all jumping at once?
