Great Big Green Week 2024
Join the Great Big Green Week, the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.
The 2024 theme is Let's swap together for good. The idea is for people and communities to make swaps every day to help create a better tomorrow.
Run an activity with your unit:
- Swap ideas on how you can take action to help nature.. Write pledges for nature on leaves to make a ‘tree of pledges’, see this article for ideas to get you started. Choose one pledge from the tree to try out during the week and share what you did at your next unit meeting.
- Swap ideas on what you’d like others – such as the government – to do for nature. Write to your local MP to call for further action on nature.
- Swap an indoor unit meeting for an outdoor nature-themed meeting using our RSPB activity packs or try the new 2024 resources.
- Swap an unloved space for a wildlife habitat by planting things that benefit nature and bring beauty to the community. If you don’t have access to much outdoor space, try planting sunflowers in pots or growing food for moths.
- Swap crafts for craftivism: show you care about climate action by making something to wear or display, such as a green heart. to wear or display to show you care about climate action. Or download a poster from some of the UK’s best loved children’s book illustrators, colour it in and display it in your window.
- For more ideas see the Green Big Green Week A to Z.
Take it further:
- For older Guides and Rangers, screen one of the short ‘Saving Our Wild Isles’ films and use this to spark a discussion on how to revive nature where you live.
- Join in with a community event near you.
- Organise an event for families or the wider community with resources from the Great Big Green Week website.
Leaders, let us know that you’re taking part in the Great Big Green Week on your social media channels; we’d love to see photos of what you are doing. Use #SwapTogether or #GreatBigGreenWeek and tag @TheCCoalition on X and @theclimatecoalition on Facebook and Instagram.

Girlguiding London and South East England are involved in this event as part of our partnership with the RSPB, which enables girls to enjoy, discover and help nature. The RSPB are one of many partner organisations involved in the Great Big Green Week.
Young members: how would you like to engage with and take action for nature? Our partners at the RSPB would also love to hear from Guides, Rangers, young leaders and members 18-30 as they create their new youth strategy. Please share this short survey with young members or why not gather their ideas and fill it in as part of your Big Green Week activities?
