Through Girlguiding’s partnership with HSBC UK, and following a very successful event with Girlguiding Midlands, we are excited to announce that there will be a Takeover Day with HSBC UK for Guides and Rangers on Saturday 18 April 2026. The event will take place at HSBC’s iconic building in Canary Wharf. At this free event, girls will take part in fun activities on financial confidence and the value of money and learn more about how businesses work. They'll also receive a special ‘I’m money confident’ badge. Registration is now open!

If you’re not allocated a space in the ballot for this event and would like to get involved in the partnership, you can download free money confidence toppers, created with HSBC, from Girlguiding’s online shop. Guides and Rangers can experiment with ways to budget and decide what they want to spend on in money talks and track the cash.

Key Information

Timings for the day:
10:00am (registration) to 4:00pm

How to get there:
Nearest station is Canary Wharf on the Jubilee, Elizabeth or DLR lines (5-minute walk).

Accessibility:
We aim to make this event accessible to all. We’ll ask for details of any access needs after the ballot selection, but if you have any questions or concerns do contact us at info@girlguidinglaser.org.uk

How much does it cost?
This event is free to attend, but attendees will need to cover the cost of travel to and from the venue. If your unit needs help with the cost of travel for this event, you can apply for a grant from Girlguiding LaSER. You’ll be asked how much you need and why. Depending on the number of applications we receive, we may need to turn some people down or give smaller grants.

Do leaders need to attend?
Leaders are required to attend with their group please. Rangers and Guides will be on separate floors throughout the day, so if you have a combined Guides and Rangers unit, please note you will need to have one leader for each. Leaders will stay with girls the whole day, throughout all the activities and lunch which will take place in the same room. Everyone will be able to join in with the activities, which will be led by HSBC UK staff. Usual ratios apply.

Food and drink:
Lunch will be provided for Guides, Rangers and leaders. We will ask for dietary requirements after the ballot selection. Please also bring a water bottle for the day.

How does the ballot work?
The form link will be open from midday Thursday 5 February to the end of Sunday 8 February. Once the closing date has passed, places will be allocated by ballot. Those groups who have been successful in the ballot will be contacted within a week, but we won’t be contacting unsuccessful groups. Do keep an eye on your inbox though as we may contact you if spaces become available later on.

Please note that registration is limited to a maximum of 10 Guides or 10 Rangers and 2 leaders per group. Groups can be made up of a single unit or a combination of units, but Guides and Rangers will be on separate floors for the day. If you need more leaders to meet the needs of your group, please get in touch.

What activities will girls be doing?

Girls will have a full programme of activities, including a session on money and value, and will hear first-hand about running a business and working in a bank. They’ll also receive their HSBC UK ‘I’m money confident’ badge.

First aid:
The venue provides first aid trained staff and has first aid points throughout the centre, however leaders are requested to bring a small first aid kit for their group and should be the first point of access for minor first aid. For any more significant first aid needs, please contact one of the event team or a member of staff.

Risk assessments:
Groups will be responsible for risk assessing travel and pastoral care during the event. The event and venue will be risk assessed by HSBC UK and Girlguiding London and South East England.

Will we get a badge?
Yes, everyone will get a complimentary ‘I’m money confident’ badge.

What do we wear?
Please can all members wear Girlguiding uniform.

What forms will we need to complete?

Media, accessibility and dietary requirements to be submitted at a later date, once the ballot selection is complete. You’ll need to collect information and consent forms for your young members, as you do with any other event away from the meeting place, but you do not need to share these with us.
