Book Series of the month: Super Awkward trilogy by Beth Garrod

Written by Lois Hilton

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another blog on books 😊. This month we will be looking at the Super Awkward trilogy by Beth Garrod, a local author living in London. This trilogy is definitely one of my favourite series, so here are my thoughts on the three books that make it up.

This is a comedic, romantic, young adult trilogy that covers the awkward life of the teenager Bella Fisher. If that doesn’t make you want to read it, I don’t know what will. We follow her experiences of heartbreak, friendship, ex-boyfriends, and awkward dates, as she goes through her life and all of the events, we have all experienced or will experience.

This series is one of my favourites: it was one of my first ventures into the Young Adult Fiction world, and one that I will probably pick up off of the shelf. It was an easy read, and like most of my favourite books, you felt in on the action and everything that was happening, feeling Bella’s life from a first-person point of view, and feeling all of the embarrassment with her. The book is very casual, not needing a lot of thinking whilst reading, which is great especially towards the end of the day. You don’t have to remember too much, meaning that you can easily pick up the book when you need to.

The book has small chapters, that either finish on a cliff-hanger or an ending of a day (or similar). The books fly by when you read them, and they are written in a way that doesn’t leave anything too confusing and you understand what you’re reading. The books need to be read in order, as previous events are brought up with little detail to remind you, but it’s better if you know what is going on.

Beth Garrod is such an amazing author, covering relatable scenarios all through the book, such as annoying parents, misunderstandings and friendship problems. I loved all three of these books, especially after a difficult day, allowing me to escape to another person’s life who isn’t too different to my own.

So, as with all of these books, I recommend you read the series. It is a great book to start with to go into the Young Adult book world, as well as one to continue the venture. Beth Garrod has also released another book called Take and Chance on Me which I haven’t had the chance to read but hopefully I will soon.

Hope you enjoyed this review! Don’t forget if you have any book recommendation then you can send a blog to us, I would love to hear them 😊. Here is a link to find out more: https://www.girlguidinglaser.org.uk/challenges/report-for-the-hive.

Happy reading and I will see you next month :).
