Celebrating Pride 2023

Members across the region celebrated Pride this summer in their units and out at events.

Pride in units

During Pride month in June, units did a variety of activities to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community.

"Our Guides asked to celebrate Pride. We looked at all the different Pride flags and then designed some more! We talked about the people and things we are proud about. Then we created wind chimes with the colours and charms that represented ourselves. Finishing off the evening with our own mini pride parade."

— Steph, leader, 1st Edenbridge Guides

"We celebrated Pride through some science experiments! We did the Rainbow Challenge UMA and created some rainbow patterns with skittles. The girls loved getting creative and attempting different pride flag colours within their designs."

— Katie, leader, 2nd Bedfont (St Mary's) Guides

Meanwhile, 10th Lee South Guides and Rangers made fruit kebabs, paper hearts and ally posters.

At Pride events

In July, members from Girlguiding Croydon celebrated at Croydon Pride, Sussex East took their recruitment roadshow to Brighton Pride in August, whilst Surrey West and Surrey East rounded out the summers’ events in Reigate for Pride in Surrey on 9 September.
