Introducing our newest peer educators

Last month we hosted Girlguiding London and South East England's biggest ever peer education event with 22 new trainees and 9 existing peer educators returning for training in our Breaking Free resource, which is all about gender stereotyping.

It is a real joy to organise and facilitate weekends where young people from across the region get to meet others and learn new skills which they then pass on to others through session delivery. It’s not all hard work though with plenty of time for socialising, including the Saturday evening quiz (which some say is becoming legendary!). Our new Peer Educators are ready and keen to deliver sessions for your Brownie, Guide or Ranger unit (all our sessions count towards UMA minutes and have an exclusive badge!). You can request a session though our website.

Thank you to Emma, Beth, Chloe and Amy, our fabulous peer education trainers who put so much energy into the weekend as well as Kate, Alison and Beverly from Surrey East county for their event support.

- Vicky Cunningham, region peer education coordinator

I began the weekend feeling excited for a fun experience with friends and possibly new people; I left feeling like a better person entirely. The whole weekend improved my social skills, educated me about the different types of people within my area and motivated me into investing in girlguiding. Thanks to the Peer Education weekend, I’ve connected with the guiding community and realised that I want to get involved with it more.

— Gabby Bhambra, Girlguiding London South East county
