Guides Backwoods Cooking Skills Day

A day for Guides to cover the Backwoods Cooking interest badge.

A day for Guides with an adult leader. Young leaders are welcome too!

Designed to cover the Backwoods Cooking interest badge for Guides. Come along and learn how to cook up a fiery feast, light a fire suitable to cook on, and learn about cooking on an open fire in various ways including on a stick, in the embers, and in a tin. Then use your skills to create a three-course “fakeaway” lunch menu. Have a go at cooking your fakeaway!

Please aim to arrive at 10:00am ready for a 10:30am start. The day is based outdoors with limited shelter, so please dress according to the weather conditions. You will need a rain jacket, sturdy footwear – boots or trainers - water bottle, unbreakable camp mug, a packed lunch (there will be plenty of food but just in case bushcraft cooking isn’t to your taste we don’t want you to go hungry!), personal medications and anything else you think you will need for a day out.

At least one leader known to the participants is required to attend the day. Participants will need an Information and consent form (available from the Girlguiding website) and you will also need to bring your unit first aid kit.

Hot drinks will be available.

(Please note this is a general skills day and may not cover the entire criteria for badges. However, we aim to give you the skills required for your Backwoods Cooking badge. Any tools and equipment required will be provided.)
