Peer education topic training day

Think Resilient or Safe the World

Girlguiding London and South East England welcomes our existing peer educators to train in an additional topic. To attend this training you must have previously attended a Peer Education Basic Training weekend and must be a Peer Educator within Girlguiding London and South East England.

This event will see two topic trainings run side by side with everyone coming together for a delicious lunch. You can opt to train in:

1. Think Resilient, designed to build mental wellbeing and grow resilience through exploring five different resilience building techniques

2. Safe the World, which tackles the topic of safety by looking at how everyone experiences safety differently, how we can spot and deal with unsafe behaviours and how we can empower everyone to become upstanders and campaign for a safer world for all.

During the day our experienced and enthusiastic Peer Educator trainers will equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to start delivering one of these impactful resources in your county. You’ll also be able to tick off visiting one of the WAGGGS World Centres, Pax Lodge, experience being part of a pinning ceremony and enjoy a visit to the centre shop.

Travel Arrangements

The nearest underground station is Belsize Park, on the Northern Line (Edgware line). Belsize Park can be reached in approximately 16 minutes by taking the Northern Line from Waterloo station. On arrival at Belsize Park, Pax Lodge is a 15-minute walk. Pax Lodge is also accessible by bus numbers 24, 46, C11, 168 or 268.

Car parking at Pax Lodge is limited and unreserved and spaces cannot be guaranteed so we would encourage Peer Educators to use public transport to travel to the event.

Travel Expenses are not covered by Girlguiding London and South East England but we would encourage you to contact your county coordinator as your county may be able to support you. If the area in which you guide is within an area of high deprivation, you may be able to apply for a Girlguiding London and South East England grant with approval from your commissioner.

What do I need to do to attend?

  • Sign up to attend Topic Training using this form and indicate if you would like to attend Think Resilient or Safe the World Topic Training
  • Send your payment using the details on the form to secure your place. Your place will be confirmed via email once we receive your payment. Please note, should you be unable to make the event, the payment will not be refundable unless your place can be filled by someone else. If you have any concerns about paying, please contact your county coordinator or commissioner who may be able to offer financial support.

Places on topic training days are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, after which a waiting list will be operated. Registration closes 5pm Sunday 28 June, or before if event capacity is reached.

Pre Training Requirements

There are some pre-training requirements which must be completed at least two weeks before the training day:

  • Ensure that your A Safe Space Levels 1 & 2 or A Safe Space for 14–17-year-olds doesn’t expire in the 40 days before the training event. If it does, you will need to complete ‘Safer Guiding’ training. You can access this on the Learning Platform but if you have difficulties logging in do ask your unit leader, county coordinator or commissioner for help.
  • Watch the Think Resilient Topic Video or Safe the World Topic Video and complete the relevant quiz on the same page.

Accessibility & Inclusion

Our knowledgeable and welcoming training team aim to adapt sessions as much as possible. However, as this is a structured training day with specific content to cover, there are some limits to how much changes can be made. We are committed to being as inclusive as possible and encourage peer educators to be open and honest about their needs so we can work with them in the run up to and during the event. Peer educators who have provided information on the application form regarding additional needs or requirements will be emailed by the event team prior to the event.

We’ll send out a detailed information pack nearer to the event.

If you have any questions or queries about the event, please email peereducation@girlguidinglaser.org.uk. If your query is about booking or payment, please contact Jane Harvey via info@girlguidinglaser.org.uk (copying in an adult if you are under 18).
