We’re pleased to announce that a record 12 Girlguiding members from Greater London will receive the Deputy Lieutenant's Certificate this year. The award celebrates the achievements of the most outstanding young people within each London borough and aims to give them visibility within their communities.
The Deputy Lieutenant’s Certificate recognises young people aged 15-26 who are members of the 11 uniformed youth groups in YOU London.
Girlguiding recipients will be great ambassadors for Girlguiding, getting involved in activities, events and offers within their units, districts, divisions and counties, or at region and nationally. They also embody through their actions, one or all of our Girlguiding values: fun, caring, inclusive, empowering and inspiring.
Additionally, awardees may hold roles such as young leader or peer educator; be working towards or have achieved their Queens Guide, Ranger Gold, or DofE awards; or have worked hard or achieved a personal goal or accomplishment.

Each borough's Deputy Lieutenant will present the certificates either during a visit to a unit, at a joint presentation with the Mayor, or at any other suitable occasion during the year. This usually takes place around May.
Nomination process
Leaders in Greater London can submit nominations for Girlguiding members at the beginning of each year for a second recommendation from a district or county commissioner. The region chief commissioner will sign off all nominations before submitting them to the Greater London Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (GL RFCA), who forward them on to the representative Deputy Lieutenants in each borough.
