A weekend of Remembrance

Remembrance events are an important part of the Girlguiding calendar as we remember and honour those who have served and sacrificed in the British Armed Forces, the emergency services, and the civilians who have lost their lives in conflict. It is also a time for hope for a peaceful future.

Girlguiding London and South East England are proud to represent Girlguiding at the Cenotaph in London service each year. This year, 34 members from Croydon county joined the procession and laid the Girlguiding poppy wreath. The service was broadcast live on BBC1 and is now on iPlayer (you can see Girlguiding at around 2 hrs 15 mins).

"I had the pleasure of leading the Girlguiding contingent at the Cenotaph yesterday. A fantastic moving day. A chance to remember all those who served. The Brownie, Guides, Rangers and leaders did us proud."

— Louise, leader, Croydon county

Meanwhile, members from Greater London West county supported the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall as volunteers at the event. The festival, in its centenary year, celebrates the armed forces through a programme of music. This year paid tribute to the National Servicemen who served in the post-war years until 1963, the contribution of the Windrush Generation, the Battle of the Atlantic, and those fighting back from service injuries.

And finally, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers and volunteers from all over the region marked Remembrance Sunday at local events and in unit meetings. You can find a selection of these on our Facebook page, on X (Twitter) and our Instagram story highlight – we really enjoy seeing what you get up to, so please continue to tag us in your posts!
