Celebrating 10 years with the RSPB!

This year, we're proud to be celebrating 10 years of partnership with the RSPB, the UK's largest nature conservation charity. It's the RSPB's mission to protect and restore habitats, protect threatened species and help to end the nature and climate emergency, and inspire others to do the same. Together, we continue to give more girls and young women the chance to discover and enjoy nature, and to empower them to take action to save it.

Our partnership aims:

  • Young members will feel an increased connection to, and a deeper love and knowledge of nature.
  • Leaders will deliver an increased number of outdoor activities for nature.
  • Young members will make nature friendly choices and take positive action to help nature.
  • Young members will be empowered to become champions for nature and drive change.

To celebrate and help achieve these aims, we're launching an exciting new competition inviting members of all ages to spend time in and take action for nature and tell us about it. Find out how you can take part and get your hands on the exclusive RSPB 10th anniversary partnership badge!

But don't just take our word for it. Find out more about our partnership in numbers, photos and quotes:

  • 22,068 girls and 3,599 adult volunteers involved in outdoor nature activities
  • 39,182 connections to nature (RSPB counts a connection to nature experience as one child spending at least 30 minutes outdoors having a first-hand experience of nature)
  • 5 wildlife discovery day events in London in 2023/24, reaching 348 girls and 104 adult volunteers from 33 units held in Golders Hill Park, Highgate Wood, Southwark Park, West Ham Park and Morden Hall Park

It was so good. Found 5 slugs, made art, built a nest; everything was amazing, 10/10

— Young member, Golders Hill Park event

My Guides enjoyed the day more and more as the day progressed. Enjoyed climbing on the fallen trees and walking over the log to get through the mud patch. They enjoyed hunting mini beasts and doing the clay green man.

— Leader, 3rd Kenley Guides at the Highgate Wood event
  • 5 wildlife discovery day events in the south east in 2023, reaching 279 girls and 86 adult volunteers from 28 units held at RSPB nature reserves in Pagham, Pulborough, Dungeness and Farnham

The Together with Nature pack supported a whole morning's activities in the park and was an excellent pack.

— Leader, 2nd Merton Park Brownies, Greater London West county

Some of the girls returned the following week asking for the recipe we used for making bird feeders as they had gained so much enjoyment from watching the birds feed in their gardens.

— Leader, 1st Farningham and Eynsford Rainbows, Kent West county

  • 1 'Running Outdoor Nature Sessions' workshop - leaders and trainers are delivering this workshop to volunteers to build their knowledge, skills and confidence to build more nature into their unit programmes
  • 6 activity packs and kits at 4 campsites, 1 division and 1 county with books, binoculars, bird ID sheets, books, nature trials, etc.
  • 1 Bit Talk vodcast episode with an RSBP scientist looking at biodiversity

Additionally, we're proud and excited that the success of this partnership has provided the foundation for the RSPB to launch new partnerships with other regions – previously Girlguiding Anglia, and currently Girlguiding North West England and Girlguiding South West England – so that thousands more girls and their leaders are connecting with nature, and taking action for nature.
