Celebrating 100 years of World Thinking Day

Members of all ages celebrated friendship by marking 100 years of World Thinking Day on Sunday 22 February 2026 with special events and lots of activities in units.

Our flagship region activity was the World Thinking Day Brunch with around 1,800 members joining in online throughout the morning. We found out that, unsurprisingly, the region's favourite brunch is pancakes!

They heard about all the exciting events happening in the region, especially international opportunities, and heard from guiding sisters in videos from around the world. They also heard from ambassador Lucy Giles as she reflected on the role of friendship in her life and career. Members then renewed their promises together.

Celebrating World Thinking Day each year is a wonderful way to be reminded we are all part of a much larger organisation - WAGGS - around the world, where the spirit of guiding affects the lives of so many girls and their families. Being able to share in that through the videos from other countries as part of World Thinking Day Brunch, and hearing about the opportunities that girls in our region have had over the last year and will continue to have was great fun. Hopefully everyone who joined whether from home or from a local event enjoyed the webinars and their own brunch!

Other celebrations included 350 members from Worthing Cissbury and Worthing Highdown divisions who danced, bounced, crafted and experimented before a promise ceremony and campfire. Meanwhile, 5th Paddock Wood Guides in Kent Weald county who celebrated with a sleepover, doing lots of friendship and Guiding related crafts and activities followed by a Thinking Day Brunch with families. Up in north west London, 4th Brondesbury Guides and Brownies had a very enjoyable evening thinking about guiding sisters from about the world. The units have girls who come from countries all around the world and everyone brought in something special from their country to show the others. They also decorated cups and paper plates with a friendship theme which looked beautiful when lit up by a tea light.

It was a great way to end the meeting, singing Taps and Brownie Bells by the glow of the light.
