Girlguiding at the Six Nations

It was an exciting day at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham as the Red Roses took on France for the women's Six Nations cup last month, and Girlguiding London and South East England were there for it as part of our partnership with England Rugby.

To start the day, 40 Guides from Kent Weald, Surrey East, Surrey West and London North West counties joined the Harlequins Foundation across the road at the Stoop for match day activation, having fun learning rugby skills through non-contact games and activities.

Later, two dozen adult volunteers participated in the pitch pageantry and had the important task of holding the giant French flag on pitch in front of a packed stadium during the national anthems.

Both groups came together in the stands to enjoy the match seated together with Scouts.

Meanwhile, Sarah Ings, region trustee and Surrey West county commissioner, and Tori Wheeler, region lead volunteer for marketing and communications, alongside staff members Maggie and Angie, spent time with colleagues from Scouts and our partners at England Rugby in the Spirit of Rugby.

The match itself did not disappoint with the Red Roses clinching the title by 1 point despite a spirited comeback from France!

Our exciting partnership with England Rugby continues - keep an eye out for more opportunities to get involved with rugby ahead of the World Cup in September and beyond - and don't forget to check out the Love Rugby badge or your local rugby club!

The Pitch Pageantry at the final round of the Women’s Six Nations was an amazing experience. It was lovely to meet Girlguiding members from across the region and share this once in a life time experience with them.

Thank you for a fantastic day. The girls adored it, the spectacle of Twickenham especially.
