Lord Mayor's Show 2023

Guides, Rangers and volunteers from Surrey West county represented Girlguiding London and South East England at the Lord Mayor’s Show in London this weekend. The parade celebrates the inauguration of the year’s Lord Mayor and is one of the best-known annual events in the capital.

"Being part of the Lord Mayor's Show was a great example of the opportunities Girlguiding can offer girls. With girls and leaders from across the county taking part, new friendships were formed and everyone had an enjoyable day."

— Sarah Ings, County commissioner, Surrey West county

The theme of their display was "Girls can do anything" and participants carried flags to represent all the amazing things girls can do with Girlguiding. Members wore special commemorative scarves and badges featuring the Surrey Lioness.

"I was nervous beforehand, but absolutely loved being in the procession. It was a truly memorable, once-in-a-lifetime experience that I’ll remember forever."

— Guide, Surrey West county

An amazing team from Girlguiding Sussex Central county also supported the event behind the scenes by coordinating lunches for the whole pageant.

Did you know that the Lord Mayor’s Show is the oldest civic procession in the world? The parade dates back to the early 13th century!
