Over 60 young volunteers from around the region came together at Pax Lodge, Girlguiding's World Centre in London, for our first ever young leader development programme (YLDP) training day.
At the YLDP training event, attendees learned more about the programme, completed up to 2 modules, and met other young leaders and young external volunteers from across the region. The fun-filled day with a pizza lunch helped the young volunteers to develop new skills and make new connections. Meanwhile, adult volunteers had separate sessions to hear about the programme and how to support young volunteers as they navigate the YLDP.
Region young leaders meet in London
My young leaders really enjoyed their first trip to our world centre and found all the sessions very informative. I found it very useful to learn bout the new scheme and how we as leaders can help the girls.
— Leader
By providing our young volunteers with opportunities to lead and learn, we are empowering them to become confident, capable individuals who make a positive impact to Girlguiding and the units they volunteer with.
— Amanda Teasel, chief commissioner
If you have a young leader in your unit, please encourage and support them to take the next step in their leadership journey with the young leader development programme. If you have any questions, do get in touch with your county young leader coordinator or contact the region young leader coordinator at yldp@girlguidinglaser.org.uk.
Don’t forget, there are welcome booklets available for new young leaders and young external volunteers to introduce them to the role and get them started.
