Women in STEM opportunities

Written by The Hive

Whether you're looking for your first job, want to switch up your career or just want to learn, we've collected some resources to get you started.

STEM Women has lots of events giving you the chance to hear from STEM companies about job opportunities, networking and hearing what it is like to work in STEM careers.

They're holding a virtual UK STEM careers event targeted towards university students/graduates in February (open to all who are interested).

They also list job opportunities.

Women into construction offers apprenticeships for women wanting to join the construction industry.

Please note that the apprenticeships are only available in certain areas.

Futurelearn has courses related to maths, science and engineering. You could sign up to:

  • Data analytics using Python
  • Life on Mars, Earth and beyond (astrobiology)

They also have courses on computer science including:

  • Cyber security
  • Improving equality and diversity with technology
  • Innovations in Fintech (financial technology)
  • Software development
  • User Experience (UX)

Some are free and some are paid, but they will give you a great background of knowledge and sometimes a qualification to kickstart your career or see what you are interested in.

Want to learn to code?

SheCodes has workshops and classes, including a free 60 minute intro class.

  • Web accessibility and why it is important
  • An intro to API
  • Cloud technology
  • Machine learning

They also have longer courses for both university students or recent graduates (free) or for anyone wanting to switch up their careers.

Prospects lists lots of job opportunities, plus they have lots of 'job profiles' to help narrow down the type of career you're looking for.
