Would volunteers in your division/county like to build their skills and confidence in taking children and young people outdoors to discover, explore, enjoy and help nature? Would more experienced volunteers be interested in getting fresh inspiration for nature activities?
As part of our partnership with the RSPB, we offer âRunning Outdoors Nature Sessionsâ workshops for Girlguiding volunteers. We have several trainers and workshop leaders, who have been trained by the RSPB, and are keen to offer these workshops. They are able to offer workshops in and around:
- London South West County
- London North West
- London South East
- Greater London West
- Croydon
- Staplehurst Division, Kent Weald County
- Thanet South Division, Kent East County
- Petworth and Chichester Divisions, Sussex West County
- Erith & Crayford Division, County Greater London Kent County
The workshops are around 2 hours long, with options to extend to a half or full day (more details below). Itâs a fun, engaging and hands-on session, with a focus on all UK nature (not just birds!) The course content was developed by RSPB and trainers from Girlguiding London and South East England. If you are interested in arranging a workshop, please contact info@girlguidinglaser.org.uk.
Feedback from previous workshops
âExceeded my expectations, having hands on practicals to do and seeing what materials are available to use helps us to now use the tasks in a different way. We hope to achieve 8 outdoor nature sessions in the next 6 monthsâ Leader, Girlguiding London and South East England
âExceeded my expectations, great interactive session and ideas. I now plan to run 5-6 outdoor nature sessions with my Brownies in the next 6 monthsâ Leader, 3rd Bolton Brownies
Aim
To build the confidence of Girlguiding volunteers to take children and young people outdoors to discover, explore, enjoy and help nature so that they deliver an increased number of activities in and for nature in their programmes.
Learning objectives
1. Developed their practical skills to build more nature-based sessions into their regular programme planning
2. Increased motivation for the importance and value of deepening young peopleâs love of nature through a combination of hands on experiences and taking actions to benefit the natural world so that girls become champions for nature and drive change.
3. Increased awareness of the threats to nature and the positive actions which Leaders can inspire girls to take, as part of the wider nature movement.
4. Be inspired to build on the âtake actionâ and âadventureâ elements of the Girlguiding programme to create more meaningful experiences and a greater benefit for young people
