Volunteer warm welcome grant

The warm welcome grant is available to support units in welcoming new volunteers with the aim of helping with the cost of either training or uniform, or a combination of the two. This grant of £50 aims to ensure volunteers have the best start to their guiding experience. Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until the funding runs out.

Eligibility criteria

Units can apply for this funding if their new volunteer meets the below criteria:

  • They became an active new volunteer (i.e. new to guiding) no earlier than 1 January 2025.
  • They are over 18 years old.
  • The volunteer must have completed the safer guiding training, their DBS must be completed, and their commissioner must have received two references, enabling them to have a membership number.
  • Their main role is in the unit applying.
  • The new volunteer must not have previously held a role within the last three years.

Please note:

  • Unit leaders should apply for the funding, not the new volunteer.
  • The grant can only be paid to the unit’s bank account, not a personal bank account. If the unit does not have its own bank account, then the grant can be paid to the relevant district or division’s bank account.
  • If you have any questions or queries, please contact growthandretention@girlguidinglaser.org.uk.
