An autumn afternoon tea

On Sunday 24 November, 140 region members and staff gathered to celebrate awards and achievements throughout the region with an afternoon tea at Bromley Court Hotel. We recognised those who had received various awards including 30, 40, 50 and 60 years long service, Laurel and Silver Fish awards, Coronation medals and region thanks badges for volunteers who led this year's international trips. In addition, county commissioners each invited 2 volunteers they wanted to say ‘thank you’ to for the contribution that they had made to guiding. There was an amazing buzz in the room as we celebrated together and shared stories, tea, cake and delicious fresh scones!

"It was good to reflect on 30 plus years of being in the same organisation and all the fun we've had whilst helping girls grow. Thank you for making me stop and take time to mark the years that have gone by, and for the lovely afternoon tea."

"We do it for the girls but occasionally it is nice to get a boost by being recognised by the organisation for the service given and to see others receive awards for their efforts and participation, too."

A special mention to Mel Ford, who has received the Silver Fish award, Girlguiding's highest honor. Mel has held roles at all levels of Girlguiding and was fundamental in developing the peer education programme into what it is today. She is an inspirational trainer, and has held numerous roles for WAGGGS and is also currently county commissioner for Sussex West.
